What is my story?

This year marks my 20th-year journey in the technology industry. It has been an exciting journey and I felt blessed that was able to do what I love - technology. Yet, it wasn't easy, I came out of school during the Asian economic crisis when jobs did not come easy for new graduates, then there was the dotcom bubble. Those were also the times that technical skills were less regarded in Singapore while work is being outsourced. I remember the countless overnight marathons churning out codes and working out the sums that it was a really a blue collar job. I resisted the temptation of going into management but did become a solution architect in order to be a glorified programmer. To be fair solution architect is really one of the best jobs to have, it is a problem-solving job dealing with challenges ranging from people; business processes; systems; budgeting; sourcing and to engineering. Interestingly, cybersecurity is a domain that covers the entire spectrum of challenges implementing technology in an organization as well.

This year, I am taking on a new challenge to be an entrepreneur to pursue my passion for helping people learn tech skills and create jobs. I met many talented people in my life, yet because they 'don't-fit-in', they are not able to do the work that maximises their talents. I believe much can be done to create a diverse work environment, removing the bias of gender, age, and qualification. Cyberlabs.live is the start of my crazy dream. It is a daunting journey with many unknowns, but I am going pursue it with passion and hard work. Wish me luck!
